Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday accepted a confidence-move moved by the Congress, as a result of which the Narendra Modi government will face its second confidence-move vote in the next 10 business days. The Modi government faced its first trust-overwhelming vote in 2018 and it had its share of drama and theatrics in debating the resolution moved by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at the time, which was credited to then Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

His smile and wink became his hallmark after Rahul Gandhi’s sudden and engaging discussion to hug PM Modi after a blistering attack and back with his party colleagues. During the discussion Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the BJP government and Modi lashed out at the Congress without any limits, thereby setting the ground for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

It all started in March 2018 when Chandrababu Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party (TDP), which was then in power in Andhra Pradesh, walked out of the BJP-led National Janata Alliance (NDA) on the pretext of seeking special category status for the state. The TDP further announced that it would move a motion of no-confidence against the government in the Lok Sabha. TDP did the same.
